THE DELHI EARTHQUAKE SAFETY INITIATIVE (DESI)
This multi year project funded by the US Agency for International Development (USAID) was designed to improve earthquake safety in several major cities in India. In particular, it addressed the vital issue of the earthquake safety performance of “lifeline buildings” (i.e., important facilities) in Delhi. GeoHazards Society supported Geohazards International in the project for building capacities in the Government of Delhi in Retrofitting of Lifeline Buildings. Experts in retrofitting guided engineers of the Delhi PWD in assessing and developing retrofit designs for five lifeline buildings selected by the Government of Delhi.
