South Asian Consultation Workshop on School and Hospital Safety, New Delhi

GeoHazards International (GHI) organized a South Asian Consultation Workshop on School and Hospital Safety at the Hotel Claridges, New Delhi on the 24th and 25th of May, 2011 as part of a regional partnership with the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction (GFDRR). The purpose of the workshop was to consult with key stakeholders in the field of School and Hospital Safety as a first step towards developing National Action Plans in these two important sectors in India, Bhutan, and Nepal. Distinguished representatives from the above countries participated in the workshop. (A short report)

National Workshop on Hospital Safety:

As a part of the process of formulating the National Disaster Management Guidelines on Hospital Safety and the National Action Plan for Hospital Safety, GHI and GFDRR in collaboration with NDMA held the National Workshop on Hospital Safety on 30th May 2012 at the National Institute of Health and Family Welfare (NIHFW), New Delhi. The purpose of the workshop was to consult the key stakeholders in the health sector in the country and present before them the progress made thus far in developing the National Guidelines and the National Action Plan. The workshop was participated by many distinguished specialists from across the national and top officials from Government of India and States. (A short report).

National Workshop on School Safety:

Recognising the need to protect the lives of school-going children in the country by ensuring a safe schooling environment from earthquakes, GeoHazards International (GHI) and the World Bank’s Global Facility for Disaster Risk Reduction (GFDRR) have entered into a partnership to improve school earthquake safety in South Asia – specifically in India and Bhutan. As a part of the process of formulating the National Policy Guidelines on School Safety and the National Action Plan for School Safety, GHI and GFDRR in collaboration with NDMA held the National Workshop on School Safety on 8th February 2013 at the National Institute of Health and Family Welfare (NIHFW), New Delhi. The purpose of the workshop was to consult the key stakeholders, who play a vital role in furthering the agenda of school safety in the country; and take inputs from them on the main areas of mitigation, preparedness and capacity building that need to be highlighted in the National Action Plan so as to ensure school safety in a comprehensive manner.
