Hospitals are an important institution in any community. They play an important role in providing medical assistance to those in need. After a disaster, they play a much important role by providing immediate medical assistance to the injured.
Major hazards such as fire, floods, earthquake have the tendency to severely affect hospital facilities leading to disruption in health services and can lead to increase in casualties.
Many hospitals in our country are ill prepared to handle hazards and have been affected by various hazards from time to time. Eg. AMRI Hospital Fire, SUM Hospital Fire etc.
GeoHazards Society has assisted WHO, NDMA in the past to develop hospital safety guidelines and have conducted a number of assessments for various hospitals across the country and abroad.
